Varun Chakravarthy produced a masterclass to lead a clinical Indian bowling and fielding unit as the hosts beat England by seven wickets with as many as 43 balls to spare in the first T20I at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday. (ANI)

Jos Buttler and Harry Brook put up a brief fightback but Chakravarthy then took over in the middle overs. He dismissed Brook and Liam Livingstone in the eighth over. Chakravarthy later dismissed Buttler, who was pretty much the only England players who could runs of any kind. (AFP)

Captain Buttler was head and shoulders above his teammates, smashing 68 off 44 balls as England put up a total of just 133. The next highest score was Brook's 17 off 14 and these were the only double-digit scores for England. (ANI )

India were buoyed by a 41-run opening stand between Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma. Like Buttler was for the batting lineup, Jofra Archer was the only effective cog in England's bowling as he dismissed Samson and Suryakumar Yadav in the same over. Archer bowled all four of his overs in the first 10 overs and finished with figures of 2/21. (PTI)
