The incident occurred in the Behibagh area, where terrorists opened fire on Manzoor Ahmad Wagay and his family. They were quickly rushed to the hospital, and while Wagay succumbed to his injuries, his wife and daughter were in stable condition.

Further details are awaited.

The Indian Express reported that a joint team of police, paramilitary forces, and the Army immediately cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to locate the attackers. Sources told The Indian Express that Wagay was shot in the abdomen, while his wife and daughter sustained leg injuries.

Last month, an Indian Army soldier was killed after an overnight encounter with terrorists in the Sopore area of Jammu and Kashmir, according to officials.

The soldier was injured during a firefight with terrorists hiding in Zaloora Gujjarpati in the Sopore police district and died while being evacuated from the gunbattle site.

Security forces cordoned off the area on January 19 after spotting gunfire while attempting to bust a militant hideout. They maintained tight surveillance overnight and launched intensified searches for suspected terrorists the following morning, officials said.

In a separate incident in October, two soldiers and two civilian porters were killed when terrorists attacked an Indian Army vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Gulmarg.

Terrorists opened fire on the vehicle in the Botapathri area, according to PTI, citing unnamed officials.

This attack came just hours after terrorists shot and injured a labourer in the Batgund Tral area of the Pulwama district. The injured labourer, identified as Pritam Singh from Uttar Pradesh, was promptly attended to by security personnel after the incident. This was the third attack on non-local labourers in Kashmir within the week.
