New Delhi, Delhi University, under its "Acharsala" program, is teaching students concepts and virtues such as patriotism and compassion, the varsity said on Wednesday.
The university held the third session of its lecture series under the "Acharsala" program, organised by the Office of the Dean of Student Welfare, a statement from DU said.
The theme of this lecture was "Delhi University's Contribution to the Development of Human Values" it added.
"Acharsala" is an initiative launched by Delhi University in November last year, conducted fortnightly to provide students with opportunities to learn directly from experts and engage in open discourse.
Providing details about the event, DU's Dean of Student Welfare, Ranjan Kumar Tripathi, said the lecture aimed to "naturally develop feelings of patriotism and compassion" among students.
"Acharsala is one of the ambitious plans of Delhi University’s Vice Chancellor, Yogesh Singh. The initiative aims to reflect the university’s glorious traditions in the behavior of students, with the goal of naturally developing feelings of patriotism and compassion," he was quoted as saying in the statement.
During the third lecture program, the chief guest, Rajeev Gupta, CEO of Delhi University’s Institution of Eminence, delivered a lecture on the integral role of educational institutions in fostering human values, integrity, and ethical responsibility, according to the statement.
As a special guest, Niranjan Kumar, Dean of the Planning Division at Delhi University, emphasised the role of humanities and social sciences in developing human values and discussed the importance of academic excellence in teaching, research, and innovation, the statement added.
Additionally, during the program, Nand Kumaram, Managing Director of Digital India Corporation and CEO of the National e-Governance Division, shared his views on technology and human values with students and teachers.
He stressed the proper use of technology with a sense of duty while adhering to ethical principles, the statement said.
The event also saw participation from Delhi University administration, several faculty members from various departments and a large number of students and researchers, as per the statement.
